Description

The Puyo Puyo series is one of the longer-running series of puzzle games out there, but the series rarely comes to the US in any form. A version of it was released for the Genesis, revamped and renamed Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. A similarly retooled version appeared for the SNES. But the game's true form has been hidden from American eyes - until now. Puyo Pop is the Neo Geo Pocket Color's defining puzzle game. It is every bit the exciting puzzle game that Tetris was to the Game Boy over a decade ago. It's the game that you'll want to have with you on buses and airplanes. Puyo Pop is the game that will make you break down and purchase the link cable. The game centers around different colored blobs, called Puyos. Linking four Puyos of the same color causes them to pop, and anything on top of the popped Puyos drops down further into the pit. This allows you to set up large chain reactions of popping Puyos. The grander combos result in extra added pain on your opponent, who takes clear Puyos whenever you do well. These clear Puyos disappear when a Puyo is popped directly next to it, and they're a bit of a hassle to dispose of. The main modes pit you against a human or computer opponent, but the selfdev mode is a one-player mode that just lets you play by yourself. Puyo Pop is a must-own Neo Geo Pocket title. Period. If you're going to buy a Neo Geo Pocket Color, get Puyo Pop, too. You won't be sorry.
