Deep in the African jungle an orphaned baby is found by the gentle Kala, the matriarch of a family of gorillas. She rescues the lonely and hairless child, determined to raise him as her own -- against the wishes of her mate, the powerful leader of the ape family, the great Kerchak. This child is none other than Tarzan, the future Lord of the Apes. His journey from child to adult is full of adventure and discovery as he simultaneously faces the dangers of the wilderness and struggles to gain his adoptive father’s acceptance. As he grows, Tarzan learns the ways and skills of the creatures of the jungle – the only peers he has ever known. His friends include the wisecracking tomboy ape Terk and the neurotic elephant Tantor.
